Nestled just off the bustling high street at 36 East St in Shoreham-by-Sea, Hector's Shed is a charming cafe that effortlessly blends cozy ambiance with a menu bursting with character and flavour. This quaint spot is a hidden gem beloved by locals and visitors alike, offering more than just your typical breakfast or lunch fare—it's a destination for anyone seeking soulful comfort food made with genuine care.

Stepping inside, you instantly sense the warm and welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by the friendly smiles of the two dedicated ladies who run the place. The environment is relaxed yet attentive, with an inviting nook-like feel that makes it perfect for a leisurely catch-up or a peaceful moment away from the seaside hustle.

What truly sets Hector's Shed apart is its thoughtfully curated menu. From the classic Welsh Rarebit—a dish that oozes creamy, cheesy goodness—to the indulgently moist Coffee Cake and perfectly spiced Courgette Cake, every bite tells a story of freshness and flavour balance. Their attention to dietary preferences shines through their Vegan BAP, Vegan Breakfast, and the famously satisfying Infamous Buddha Bowl, which one customer described as worth the wait for its vibrant, fresh ingredients and hearty textures.

If you're searching for a comforting breakfast or light lunch, the Coronation Chicken Sandwich and the English Breakfast are both excellent choices, crafted with quality ingredients and a nuanced touch. For those with a sweet tooth or specific dietary needs, the GF Lemon Cake is a revelation—generous in size and bursting with tangy citrus notes, praised by many for being one of the best gluten-free treats around.

Beverage lovers will not be disappointed either. The hot chocolate promises a rich, velvety indulgence, while the Hectors Green smoothie has garnered its own fan base for its refreshing vibrancy. As one regular, Amy Logan, shared, it’s a delightful stop that becomes a habitual joy whenever in Shoreham.

Real customer experiences capture the essence beautifully: Andy Sunderland notes the “awesome” quality of the food and the warmth of the staff, making it a must-visit in this "cute little town." Abigail Smith’s Saturday lunch recounts attentive service and thoughtfully prepared food that rewards the brief wait with nourishing, flavoursome dishes. Philip Liptrot’s passion for the ginger and lemon cake speaks volumes about the cafe’s commitment to home-baked perfection, while Grace Downie’s praise of the gluten-free cake as “proper sized” and the "best" she’s had reinvigorates many visitors looking for welcoming options beyond the usual.

Hector’s Shed doesn’t just serve food; it offers a heartfelt experience—comfort, authenticity, and a cosy refuge where each dish is crafted to delight the senses and soothe the soul. Whether you’re a local retreating from the seaside bustle or a visitor eager to taste Shoreham’s best-kept culinary secret, this cafe promises to leave a lasting, delicious impression.

Came here on Saturday lunchtime with my mum. Managed to get a table inside. The lovely friendly waitress came over straightaway to clear and clean the table and left us with menus to study. We opted for two mugs of 'proper' tea. Followed by a jacket potato with tuna and red onion and I had the Infamous Vegan Bowl. It was freshly prepared so took a little while to arrive but it was well worth the wait. There was so much in the bowl and I can't begin to list it all. I added chicken but it really wasn't needed. There was so much that I had to take some of it home in a takeaway box. Compliments to the chef! The jacket potato was also declared delicious. I would heartily recommend. The waitress was very obliging and saved us two of their homemade sausage rolls to take away and these are also very good.

Came across Hector's Shed and the two lovely ladies running it whilst wandering the backstreets of Shireham one Sun afternoon. Spotted the window full of amazing looking cakes and suddenly felt the urge for a cup of tea and cake. Had the ginger cake with a hint of lemon and oh my god it was seriously good, in fact I think the best ever. Full of ginger flavour that was perfectly balanced by the lemon. Oh yes and soooooooo moist! Whoever baked this is a total alchemist. Absolutely perfect - highly recommended for all cake aficionados! PS saw what others were eating and that looked good too. Definitely coming back, great find!

Lovely place, best place to visit in Shoreham. Its tucked around the corner from the church yard so away from the busy high street and served the best gluten free cake I've had in a good while, plus it was a proper sized cake!

It is very nice and warm in here. The coffee is really good and I love the mugs. The plate thaty carrot cake was given looks marvellous and a fork looked amazing. The carrot cake itself is a work of art, it's very well balanced in terms of sugar and I can even see carrots in it. I'm very happy.

What a place! I ordered the vegan bap, for a 'light' brunch... it was huge, and delicious! Ask if you'd like to add vegan spread. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and dog-friendly. What's not to love?!
